Jones knocked out of opera show
McFly band member Danny Jones has become the fourth singer to be knocked out of ITV's Popstar to
Operastar contest.
Five remaining celebrities performed in front of a four-strong panel to secure a place in the competition's semi-final.
Among those still in the running alongside Jones were Bernie Nolan of the Nolan Sisters; Coronation Street actress and former Hear'Say band member Kym Marsh; singer Darius Campbell (formerly Danesh); and Marcella Detriot of 90s duo Shakespears Sister.
Jones was placed in t
he bottom two alongside Detroit after securing the fewest number of public votes following the solo performances.
Mentor and tenor Rolando Villazon, plus critic Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen opted to save Jones, but fellow mentor Welsh mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins and rock star Meat Loaf evened the score by favouring Detroit.
Co-hosts Alan Titchmarsh and Myleene Klass referred back to the public vote for a decision, with Jones polling the lowest level of support from viewers with his rendition of Funiculi Funicula by Lugi Denza.
Detroit, who earlier in the show won praise for her version of Franz Schubert's Ave Maria was saved.
Jones remained good-humoured in defeat, joking: "I've had so much fun. I've learned a lot and I'm going to have a holiday."
His fellow bandmates stood cheering for him among the studio audience.
During the programme, Nolan won a standing ovation from her sisters for her rendition of Les Filles De Cadix by Leo Delibes.
